Supplier Quality Engineer / Manufacturing Engineer, Production Supervisor
Bell + Howell
Manufacturer of Automated Mail Insertion Equipment • Selected to develop and implement a Supplier Improvement Program. (I was qualified as an ISO 9000 Auditor) • Directed a team of five engineers to evaluate suppliers’ capabilities and analyze reject material. Personally recognized and implemented cost reduction opportunities totaling over $500,000. • Improved quality from 90% to 99.96% and on time delivery from 84% to 94.45% on yearly receipts of 56K line items representing 14.5M piece parts at a value of over $41M. This contributed to achieving 40% reduction in inventory on hand. Reduced the number of suppliers from 580 to 260. • Developed automated MS Access Database that captured and analyzed quality and delivery performance data. • Managed six manufacturing areas. Base machine assembly to wiring of microcomputer boxes. • Developed a color control program to implement a corporate color change with minimal rework and or scrap cost and no impact on product delivery. • Managed the pretreatment and powder coating operation at Bell & Howell and provided technical support to suppliers finishing personnel and their sub-contract finishers. • Advised Designers on cost impact of new designs, and introduced new technologies that lowered cost. • Wrote more ECNs than any other individual in the company to correct documents. Resulted in $3,000,000 in cost savings.
