Product Development Specialist 2003 –2007 Responsible for design and development for a range of innovative patient interfaces ensuring a large market share in the hospital ward environment and the ICU. From initial design through to manufacturing and assembly of components and assembly line design. Including cost and time estimation, outsourcing components and ongoing communication with the line and suppliers. Project Leader 1997 - 1998 Managed the commission of a portion of production line, which involved the supervision of 3 engineers and 4 production staff. The resulting line had excellent throughput and quality. Project Engineer 1995 - 1998 Responsible for all aspects from product R&D to complete ownership of manufacturing equipment development and commissioning, resulting in quality, low cost components. DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCIES R&D R&D of healthcare equipment (3-in-1 breathing circuit and “Ward” interfaces), with design for manufacture. Engineering of plastic components, assembly tooling and injection moulds, to provide cheap, robust, disposable product for easy assembly. Involved appropriate material selection. Project Engineer While strictly speaking a “Modified Standard” engineer – tweaking standard superconducting magnet designs to suit customer requirements, occasionally stepped outside that role to design test insert platforms, power leads and cryostats, becoming involved with project management. DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCIES Product design • Geometry, Hoop stress, Current, Magnetic Field and Homogeneity calculations, for systems up to 21 Tesla (T). • Cryostat lead design to minimise “boil off”. • Custom rotating insert platform for cryogenic testing. • Benchtop 5T magnet system. • Custom modification of cryostat design. Training Mentoring and Presentation: Delivered presentations to Sales & Marketing and Engineers in support of Training and Marketing initiatives. Skills were also used to stimulate student and prospective employee interest. Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills used in interaction with staff at all levels to obtain delivery of the finished product. Through communication, developed an understanding of the considerations and processes in use in manufacturing – not something undertaken by other engineers. Equipment Development: Advanced R&D project by 1-2 years by enabling the use, through PLC programming, of otherwise redundant machinery. Programme modifications include introducing a mathematical model for motion and enabling simple modifications by the user.
